Adagio Health provides a variety of health education and prevention
programs throughout western Pennsylvania.
For nearly three decades, Adagio Health has been dedicated to the prevention
of teen pregnancy in western Pennsylvania. Beginning in 1990, Adagio
Health launched a series of specially targeted activities in Allegheny
County, including a multi-media campaign, age-appropriate sexuality
education guidebooks, a resource guide for area teens, and peer education.
The success of these strategies led to the creation of the Center for
Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) in 1995. CAPP established a comprehensive,
multi-disciplinary approach to reducing teen pregnancy. Its programs
focus on encouraging teens to postpone first intercourse and, when sexual
activity begins, use contraception. Read more about CAPP's model for
teen pregnancy prevention.
Adagio Health directs research and community-based programs to encourage
condom use among people at-risk of contracting HIV. The programs, based
on the "stages of change" theory, rely upon peer-based outreach, role
model stories, and community networking. Read more about Adagio Health's
HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
Adagio Health is committed to sexuality education. Programs are tailored
to meet the needs of their specific audiences, from teens and parents
to teachers and others who work with teens. Read more about Adagio Health's
sexuality education programs.
Through the peer education program, CAPP offers accurate information about reproductive health issues for teens throughout western Pennsylvania. College-age peer educators present interactive workshops about a variety of sexuality and reproductive health topics, from dating violence to puberty, and abstinence to contraception. Sessions can be tailored to meet the needs of specific groups. Read more about the peer education program.
Adagio Health is dedicated to helping parents develop their skills.
CAPP's parent education program provides parents with the skills they
need to talk to their children about issues like puberty and sex. Healthy
Start House offers a variety of educational programs for new parents
and the general community. Read more about FHC's parent
education programs.
Many Adagio Health programs include professional training. The HIV/AIDS
prevention, nutrition services, and teen pregnancy prevention programs
have developed learning modules for staff to use when training other
professionals. Read more about Adagio Health's professional
training.
Adagio Health offers two programs to help people prevent or manage
diabetes. Diabetes Self-Management is available to those with a diagnosis
of diabetes and a physician’s referral to a dietitian. Enrollment
is open to men and women of all ages and most insurance plans are accepted.
